A white Rhino crosses a dirt road as members of the all-female anti-poaching unit (APU) Black Mambas patrol an area of the vast park on August 1, 2025 in Olifants West Nature Reserve, in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Dehorning of Rhinos has cut about 80% of rhino poaching, and the horns are usually cut every 18-24 months. The Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit was founded in 2013 by Transfrontier Africa and now consists of 36 members who patrol the park along fences, by foot and vehicle. Their daily work consists of foot patrols, snare sweeps, night vehicle patrols and education in the surrounding communities, which has resulted in greater awareness and significant cuts in poaching. The unarmed women often grew up in nearby communities and are now helping to educate their communities about wildlife. (Photo by Per-Anders Pettersson/Getty Images)
