Good Friday Around the World

Jose Hernandez portrays Jesus as Catholic faithful gather at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, the first stop on the 29th annual “Crucis Viviente”, on Good Friday, March 29, 2013. Coordinated by the Archdiocese of Milwaukees Hispanic Ministry Office, performers from the Hispanic community will reenact the Stations of the Cross in Spanish. The play recounts major events that occurred before Jesus Christ was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. Afterwards, actors, along with the Hispanic Catholic community of southeastern Wisconsin, will follow a mile-and-a-half street route as they pray the Stations of the Cross. Stopping at 15 designated areas, each “station” is marked by posters outlining how Jesus walked to his death and was resurrected (due to the large crowd expected, all streets during the route are closed to traffic). The procession begins at 1 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 2114 W. Mitchell St., Milwaukee. Archbishop Listecki will read Scripture at the ninth station at approximately 3 p.m., at St. Hyacinth Parish, 1414 W. Becher St., Milwaukee. The event concludes at the Basilica of St. Josaphat, 601 W. Lincoln Ave., Milwaukee at approximately 5 p.m. (Photo by Rick Wood)
