Garland Day Celebration In Castleton, Derbyshire on May 29, 2024 sees a framework of cut flowers prepared by local villagers placed on the head of the King (John Turner) then paraded around the town on horseback dressed in Stuart costume. Garland day dates back to the 1700Os and though its true origins are not fully understood it is believed to be an ancient fertility rite with Celtic connections.
