This photograph shows a partially submerged bunker (Blockhaus) from the Atlantic Wall at the entrance of Arcachon Bay near Cap Ferret, south-western France on May 19, 2024. The Atlantic Wall, made up of bunkers or blockhaus was ordered by Nazi Germany's leader Adolph Hitler to be built and between 1942 and 1944, stretched some 5000km from northern Norway to the Franco-Spanish border to defend occupied territories from sea borne attack. 15,000 of them were planned to be built, but due to insufficient manpower and material, only about half of them were completed.
