A Look at Life in Egypt

Sudanese women refugees react at an assembly point for buses arranged for their voluntary return from Egypt to Sudan, in Cairo, Egypt, 12 April 2025. Between 30 to 40 buses leave daily from different points of the Egyptian capital towards the border with Sudan, with about 1,500 passengers, according to data from local transport companies. Sudanese refugees have been gradually returning to their country after Sudan's army regained control of the capital Khartoum from paramilitary fighters of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in late March 2025. According to the UNHCR, over three million people have fled Sudan to neighboring countries since the outbreak of an armed conflict in April 2023. Egypt alone is estimated to have received more than half of them, according to government figures. (Photo by Mohamed Hossam/EPA/EFE)
