Sheep, goat, cattle, and buffalo hides brought from different provinces of Turkiye to Gaziantep are processed in the city's tanneries, turning into durable and ready-to-use leather on September 13, 2025. In storage facilities, the hides are first shaved, then washed and cleaned in large machines. The hides are dyed with various colors and, after the drying stage, they undergo tanning. Once tanned, the leather is pressed in machines and delivered to craftsmen to be used in the production of Gaziantep's traditional handicrafts, especially yemeni shoes, as well as bags, belts, and many other leather products. Each stage of the process relies on a specific division of labor, with storage, shaving, washing, dyeing, drying, and pressing carried out by different masters. The tanneries of Gaziantep not only form the heart of the city's long-established leather industry but also supply raw materials to hundreds of businesses in the region.
