A Look at Life in Indonesia

Salt farmers harvest salt in the pond on September 22, 2025 in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the largest and best producers of traditional salt in Southeast Asia. Indonesian salt farmers complain of a significant reduction in harvest yields this year because of wet drought. Traditional salt farming is highly dependent on the weather condition to get good harvest through seawater crystallization. Rainfall causes the evaporation of sea water not optimal and lower salt content and quality. Climate Variability Analysis Department of Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency reported that the extreme weather with high rainfall will continue until the end of September.
