Italy's Mount Etna Erupts

Italy's Etna Volcano is seen erupting in this false-color handout image taken with the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA's Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite at 08:59 GMT February 19, 2013. Each outburst, or paroxysm, featured emission of lava flows, pyroclastic flows, lahars, and an ash cloud, according to the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV). The false-color image combines shortwave infrared, near infrared, and green light in the red, green, and blue channels of an RGB picture. Fresh lava, erupted hours earlier, is seen as bright red.
