2009 Visa d’or News: Wojciech Grzedzinski. Repeated military incidents on the border line between Georgia and South Ossetia, being part of Georgia's territory and also its rebellious province, caused the conflict to explode on midnignt of August 7, 2008, The irregular militias of South Ossetia received military support from the Russian Army. After a few days of struggle, the Georgian army was forced by Russian troops to leave South Ossetia. The hardest fights took place on a 30 kilometer sector between Gori and Cchinwali. The number of victims on both sides of the conflict is unknown.
