Stars in the Milky Way pictured in clear skies over this weekend, at the Kielder observatory, Northumberland. Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust, Northumberland National Park Authority and Kielder Observatory are seeking of their “Dark Sky Park Status” in the next month from the International Dark Skies Association, based in the US. The public have been consulted on plans to protect 570 square miles of countryside from poor lighting which destroys the night vista. If successful, it would become England's first Dark Sky Park and would be England's Largest and Europe's Biggest. (Photo by Owen Humphreys/PA Wire)
