Infantry Officer Course students prove the Marine Corps capability to conduct raids, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions at distances greater than 1,000 miles during an exercise at Fort Hood, Texas on December 15, 2013. The Marines simulated securing an embassy in a hostile nation during the exercise using MV-22 Opsrey's aerial refueling capabilities to travel from Twentynine Palms, Calif. to Fort Hood. This exercise was a part of PALMFEX 1-14, which is the culminating exercise for Infantry Officer Course 1-14. In addition to the normal training evolution, this will also provide a “Proof-of-Concept” long-range operation from 29 Palms California to Fort Hood Texas. This is a total distance of approximately 1,100 miles and will solidify the Marine Corps as the only DOD asset to have validated the ability to provide this capability.
