The Week in Pictures: May 10 – May 16, 2014. Part 5/5

A newly identified South American dinosaur Leinkupal laticauda, uses its whip-like tail to fend off predators in this 2014 illustration handout provided by Jorge Antonio Gonzalez May 14, 2014. Fragmented bones from the species recently uncovered in Argentina, are from the long-necked dinosaurs called sauropods and is the first of its lineage within that group to be found in South America. At a relatively petite 9 meters long, it is also the smallest of its sauropod lineage. And it lived about 140 million years ago, millions of years after the last of its lineage had thought to have gone extinct, according to results published in the journal PLOS ONE May 14, 2014.
