2014 National Geographic Photo Contest, Week 14, Part 2

“Morin Khuur Student”. The Morin Khuur (the Horsehead Fiddle) is the national instrument of Mongolia. Its creation is poetically described in the legends of Mongolia. The sound created is of the horse, the loved and respected animal sacred to all Mongolians. I went to meet with the head of the Morin Khuur department at the Music College in the capital whilst visiting Mongolia. Stepping into his office this student was diligently playing. Mr Batbayar arrived shortly after with much enthusiasm to talk about the peoples' love of the instrument, its history and re emergence throughout Mongolia. Photo location: Ulaanbaater, Mongolia.
