The name “fennec” comes from the Arabic word for fox, and the species name zerda has a Greek origin that refers to its habitat. “Noh, or Nogaku – derived from the Japanese word for “skill” or “talent” – is a major form of classical Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. “Yucca is a genus of perennial shrubs and trees in the agave family, Agavaceae. Its 40-50 species are notable for their rosettes of evergreen, tough, sword-shaped leaves and large terminal panicles of white or whitish flowers. Consequently, Linnaeus mistakenly derived the generic name from the Carib word for the latter, yuca.
