Protesters and Police Clash in Pakistan

Supporters of Pakistani Muslim cleric Tahirul Qadri and opposition politician Imran Khan, clash with police during an anti-government protest in Islamabad, Pakistan, 01 September 2014. Fresh clashes erupted in Pakistan on 01 September when thousands of protesters armed with rocks and sticks marched towards the official residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to force him to resign, officials said. Around 1,000 protesters stormed the headquarters of state-run television, blocked transmission and held the employees hostage, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said. Another group of around 3,000 men was clashing with police nearly a kilometer away from Sharif's residence. Asif said the military had been called in to clear the building.
