“Human Gaze”. Japanese macaques, commonly known as snow monkeys, are found in the wild only in Japan. They are also known as the snow monkey because they live in areas where snow covers the ground for months each year. They have a very human-like, naked, red face, and expressive eyes. Photo location: Jigokudani, Japan. (Photo and caption by Cristobal Serrano/National Geographic Photo Contest)
