Mads Nissen, a Danish staff photographer for the Danish daily newspaper Politiken and represented by Panos Pictures, won the World Press Photo of the Year 2014 contest with this image of Jon and Alex, a gay couple, during an intimate moment in St. Petersburg, Russia, in this picture released by the World Press Photo on February 12, 2015. The prize-winning entries of the World Press Photo Contest 2015, the world's largest annual press photography contest, were announced February 12, 2015. Jury chair Michele McNally, said: “It is an historic time for the image' the winning image needs to be aesthetic, to have impact, and to have the potential to become iconic.
