Carnival Time around the World, Part 3

In this photo taken on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 Joaldunaks, some to call them “Zanpantzar”, take part on the Carnival between of the Pyrenees villages of Ituren and Zubieta, northern Spain. The Pyrenees villages of Ituren and Zubieta stage one of Europe’s most ancient carnivals – dating from Roman times – where residents dress up as figures known as “Joaldunak”, – or cowbells – and parade the streets with sheepskins around the waist and shoulder, conical caps and cowbells on their back.
