Laos is one of the poorest nations in south-east Asia, with less developed infrastructure and industry than its neighbors. It is, however, seeing a growing tourism sector with more than 290,000 tourists visiting Luang Prabang alone across 2014 to 2015, and regional plans to expand tourism sites and home stays in the area.
