The father of nine was shot dead outside his home in the Short Strand area earlier this week after being told by police he was under threat from republicans. Mr. McGuigan was given the warning shortly after the killing of former IRA commander Gerard Davison in May of this year. Northern Ireland first minister, Peter Robinson, has indicated that Sinn Fein could be expelled from the coalition government if IRA involvement in the killing is proven. Sinn Fein has denied any IRA connection in the killing. The PSNI have warned against possible reprisal attacks on rival republicans over the murder of Mr McGuigan.
