The Reindalen Valley in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard is seen in a combination of NASA images acquired by the Operational Land Imager on the Landsat 8 satellite on April 29 (L) and July 9, 2015 and released August 27, 2015. Despite its northerly location 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) from the North Pole, the West Spitsbergen Current brings a relatively warm stream of water from the south into the fjords and inlets of western Svalbard. This warm water moderates the climate enough that coastal areas and certain valleys witness an explosion of green in the summer. (Photo by Reuters/NASA)
