A Look at Life in Cuba

Cubans enjoy a warm April evening in the seaside beach town of Guanabo which is about 20 miles East of Havana. An abandoned low rise hotel sits on the beachfront which is experiencing sand loss and dune damage. The government has made the recovery of this beach a priority and some government and private homes are already being demolished. In some cases, new buildings will be built. A real estate market in Cuba is emerging. Cubans are renovating and selling their properties, but despite a move to restore diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba, Americans still are prohibited from buying property.
