Bru tribe crossed over from Mizoram to Tripura in 1997 following alleged atrocities committed against them by Mizos. Over 32,000 Bru refugees are still languishing in seven makeshift camps in Tripura. Ministry of Home Affairs has recently informed that the Brus lodged in the relief camps in North Tripura district they will be given six months deadline for returning to Mizoram and the names of those who still refuse to be repatriated should be deleted from the Mizoram voters' lists.
