A northern potoo sits on a tree stump and skilfully camouflages itself, photographed in the Corozal District of Belize on September 6, 2016. A northern potoo shows it is a master of disguise as it perches on a tree stump and blends into the bark. By plumping out its feathers, the nocturnal bird cleverly imitates the tree during the day, before hunting for flying insects at night. The camouflaged bird was spotted by sharp-eyed photographer Frederic Consejo in a friend's garden in Corozal District, Belize. The 55-year-old, of Consejo, Corozal District, Belize, says: “I was taken by surprise when I realised that a funny shaped tree at my friend's house was actually a northern potoo. I had been hoping to photograph one of these birds for years, but they had always been too difficult to spot”.(Photo by Frederic Consejo/HotSpot Media)
