A Look at Life in India

In this photo taken May 28, 2018, Ram Nath, 40, who makes a living from recycling trash, rummages for plastic bottles and other reusable trash while rowing a makeshift boat through murky waters of Yamuna, India's sacred river that flows through the capital of New Delhi. India produces more than 68 million tons of trash every day. More than 17,000 tons of it is plastic. That requires immense dumps, which in cities like New Delhi, mean hills of stinking trash up to 50 meters tall. Last year, two people were killed when a large part of one of the city’s dumps crashed down onto them. (Photo by Altaf Qadri/AP Photo)
