Life on a Haitian Dump

In this August 27, 2018 photo, Changlair Aristide walks across the Truitier landfill wearing his soccer uniform after a day of scavenging for useful items to use or sell, on his way to hang out with friends in the Cite Soleil slum of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. From his earnings at the dump site, Aristide bought two pigs and built a house made of corrugated steel just beyond the landfill's edge, where he lives with his wife and three of his kids.
