Tiwa men and women separate dust from paddy for making Maiphur (paddy bags) in their Jhum field during the Mai Pathala Misawa ritual in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India, 09 January 2019. Tiwa tribe depend economically on the collective effort of the tribe, especially in the post harvest agricultural work with mutual dependence between the tribe members in preserving the grains for future consumption. Instead of granaries, Tiwa tribes keep the grains inside bundles of straw with bamboo strips called “Manipur”.
