Humans and Mannequins

In this April 10, 2020, photo, a worker sits near mannequins at a clothing market closed due to coronavirus outbreak in Jakarta, Indonesia. While its neighbors scrambled early this year to try to contain the spread of the new coronavirus, the government of the world’s fourth most populous nation insisted that everything was fine. Only after the first cases were confirmed in March did President Joko Widodo acknowledge that his government was deliberately holding back information about the spread of the virus to prevent the public from panicking. The country now has the the highest death toll in Asia after China. (Photo by Dita Alangkara/AP Photo)
