An anoa with a leg injured due to snares is in a temporary cage at the Central Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) in Palu, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia on July 5, 2021. The Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) Team for Conservation Region II rescues Sulawesi endemic animals which is rare when it's on sale. The animal was caught by residents by ensnaring it in a nature reserve in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Reporting from Action Indonesia, the anoa population in nature is currently less than 2,500 individuals. The biggest causes of their declining population are forest destruction and land conversion.
