A Look at Life in Afghanistan, Part 2/2

Razia and her six-year-old daughter Alia, stand inside the women’s section of the Pul-e-Charkhi prison in Kabul, Afghanistan on September 28, 2021. When the Taliban took control of the northern city of Pul-e-Kumri the operator of the only women’s shelter ran away, abandoning 20 women in it. When the Taliban arrived at the shelter the women were given two choices: return to their abusive families, or go with the Taliban. With nowhere to put the women, the Taliban took them to the abandoned women’s section of Afghanistan’s notorious Pul-e-Charkhi prison. (Photo by Felipe Dana/AP Photo)
