Documentary and photojournalism – honourable mention – Virunga. Rangers patrol Lake Edward in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are regular patrols as well as intelligence-gathering, owing to incursions by Mai Mai militia groups on the lake, which was once the home of the largest hippopotamus population in the world. The hippos are central to the wellbeing of the lake ecosystem, but their numbers have been decimated by decades of fighting in the region. (Photo by Brent Stirton/SIPA Contest)
