Police detain an inflated sea monster during COP26 on the 2nd of November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland on November 3, 2021. At dawn the Metropolitan Police stopped a Jubilee Debt Campaign protest and detained a partially inflated Loch Ness monster. The monster represents the debt burden many lower income countries face, making a just climate change transition very difficult. Eva Watkinson, Head of Campaigns at Jubilee Debt Campaign says: The debt crisis facing lower income countries has been excluded from debate at COP26 and now police have prevent the Loch Ness Monster from raising awareness of this fundamental issue. Unsustainable debts of lower income countries are preventing countries from fighting the climate crisis. And when climate disasters hit, countries are pushed into further debt to pay for reconstruction. Rich polluting countries created the climate crisis and should take responsibility by cancelling the debts of countries that need it and ensuring climate finance is given in grants, not more loans.
