The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has lifted the red alert for extremely heavy rains in Chennai as the low pressure over northern coastal Tamil Nadu weakened to a well-developed depression. Tamil Nadu reports 14 deaths due to heavy rains and flooding in several places. According to the new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), major coastal cities such as Mumbai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam and Chennai may be up to three feet under water by the end of the century. More than 200 scientists called on the U.N. Climate Summit COP 26 on November 11, 2021, to take immediate action to halt global warming, warning in an open letter that some climate change impacts are irreversible for generations.
