A picture taken during a visit to Mariupol organized by the Russian military shows a Russian serviceman adjusting the Soviet flag on a statue of a grandmother in Leninsky Komsomol Square in downtown of Mariupol, Ukraine, 18 May 2022. The statue was erected in early May and it relates to a video that started circulating in April showing an elderly woman in a village on the outskirts of Kharkiv waving the Soviet flag to Ukrainian troops, mistaken them for Russian soldiers. On 24 February, Russian troops invaded Ukrainian territory starting a conflict that has provoked destruction and a humanitarian crisis. According to the UNHCR, more than six million refugees have fled Ukraine, and a further 7.7 million people have been displaced internally within Ukraine since. (Photo by Sergei Ilnitsky/EPA/EFE)
