Zenobia Castillo (58), an Aymara woman recycler, loads part of the material she got from the garbage dumps into an Aguayo in La Paz, Bolivia on May 18, 2022. Every morning several people make tours of garbage containers to collect Pet Bottles, Plastics or empty containers that are then taken to their homes to be collected so that once they have enough weight, they are sold to companies that reuse these materials. It is estimated that Bolivia generates more than 7,022 tons of garbage per day and of this amount only approximately 4% is recycled when 80% could be used, Bolivia currently has a program called “Zero waste” promoted by Swisscontact that seeks to support more than 50 Bolivian women in the city of La Paz with training on the treatment of reusable containers.
