Demonstrators clash with riot police near to La Moneda Presidential Palace on October 18, 2021 in Santiago, Chile. On October 18, 2019, an increase in the subway fare triggered demonstrations claiming for measures to reduce social and economic inequality. The protests turned out into a nationwide social unrest that paralyzed the country for nearly six months. Protestors held massive rallies with up to 1.2 million people requesting President Sebastian Piñera's resignation and a wide range of issues including health care, pension system, public education, social mobility, privatization of water services and corruption.
