Liberian Albinos parade through the streets during an event held to mark International Albino Awareness Day in Monrovia, Liberia, 13 June 2022. According to reports, the Liberia Albino Society petitioned members of the National Legislature to enact a law that would end discrimination and provide empowerment for its members. International Albinism Awareness Day is observed annually on 13 June to celebrate the human rights of persons with albinism, and to battle discrimination against those diagnosed with albinism worldwide. The United Nations' General Assembly adopted a resolution, establishing 13 June as International Albinism Awareness Day, which confirmed global focus on albinism advocacy, and encourages everyone to celebrate and promote albinism awareness globally. Albinism is a rare, non-contagious condition; both parents must carry the gene in order for it to be passed on, regardless if they themselves do not have albinism. (Photo by Ahmed Jallanzo/EPA/EFE)
