Subantarctic fur seals are pictured, on December 30, 2022, on the Amsterdam island, part of the five administrative districts of the French Southern and Antarctic Territories. The research station at Martin-de-Viviès, is the only settlement on the island and is the seasonal home to about thirty researchers and staff studying biology, meteorology, and geomagnetics. The island is home to the endemic Amsterdam albatross. (Photo by Patrick Hertzog//AFP Photo)
