Local residents fill up plastic bags with natural gas to be used for cooking food at home, in Karak district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, known for its rich resources of natural gas and oil, Karak, Pakistan, 18 January 2023. The government has not established any proper infrastructure for providing natural gas to local residents or surrounding areas in Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, so people are putting their lives at risk just to use natural gas as a means of cooking their food at home. People have been using a hose to extract gas from main supply lines instead of drilling. The gas was then transported from the field for home-use using plastic bags filled with helium balloons. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif has said that a crackdown against those involved in gas storage in plastic shopping bags from gas pipelines in Karak is in progress.
