A Look at Life in Yemen

Media members hold to a platform as they are lifted to the deck of the decaying FSO Safer oil tanker, off the coast of the western Hodeidah province, Yemen, 12 June 2023. The UN has secured insurance for the FSO Safer oil tanker after it began salvage work on the beleaguered vessel which carries 1.14 million barrels of crude oil, posing a serious risk to the environment off the coast of Yemen due to the possibility of it breaking up or catching fire, according to a press release by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The insurance will cover the cost of any loss or damage that might occur during the transfer of oil from the FSO Safer to another tanker. The 47-year-old vessel has not undergone maintenance since 2015 due to Yemen's war. (Photo by Yahya Arhab/EPA)
