A Look at Life in Thailand, Part 1/2

An unconscious monkey is being tattooed for future identification after being sterilized during the macaques population control campaign at a residential community in Bang Khun Thian district, Bangkok, Thailand, 23 January 2024. As part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's campaign to control the urban monkey population, at least one hundred monkeys in Bang Khun Thian district are expected to be caught for sterilization. This is due to the monkeys causing a nuisance to local residents, damaging their houses and assets, and raising fears of disease. The Bang Khun Thian district of Bangkok is situated near the Gulf of Thailand and is home to hundreds of long-tailed macaques that are facing a threat due to urban expansion, with many being hit by cars or attacked by locals when they approach for food.
