Red fox pups play on a golf course in California on July 15, 2024. The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a member of the dog family Canidae. Largest of the true foxes they are found across the Northern Hemisphere. Known for their reddish-orange fur and bushy tails, red foxes are known for their keen sense of smell, excellent hearing, and good vision. They prey on small mammals, birds, and insects, and are also help to control the populations of their prey animals, such as rodents and rabbits.
