Data from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) shows that Indonesia’s population reached 279.8 million in 2024. Observed annually on July 11, World Population Day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program in 1989 to raise awareness of global population issues. According to the World Population Prospects 2024: Summary of Results, it is expected that the world’s population will peak in the mid-2080s, growing over the next sixty years from 8.2 billion in 2024 to around 10.3 billion people in the mid-2080s, and then return to 10.2 billion people by the end of the century.
