Members of Wuxing Ba Jiang Tuan, a Taiwanese folk troupe, wait to perform their ritual performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Minxiong Xutian Temple on April 22, 2023, in Chiayi, Taiwan. Ba Jiang Tuan, originated from Chinese folk beliefs and refers to eight generals who were said to have performed exorcisms of evil spirits. Throughout history, the generals became respected as gods of the underworld and bodyguards of the gods. Today, Ba Jiang Tuan folk troupes perform across Taiwan and their performances are said to capture ghosts and evil spirits bringing safety and good luck to the temple and its believers.
