Newly commissioned second lieutenants assigned to Bravo Company, The Basic School, perform an “abandon ship” technique during Marine Corps Water Survival Training Program qualification at Ramer Hall Swim Tank, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., January 17, 2013. About 300 second lieutenants trained to drown-proof in open water, survive in freezing water and move with a combat load in both shallow and deep water along with other water-survival techniques. If the individual Marine completed all of the required techniques, they earned their basic swim qualification. (Photo by Marines Sgt. Tyler L. Main/Defense Media Activity)
