Kawakanih Yawalapiti, 9, Upper Xingu region of Mato Grosso, Brazil, 2018: Kawakanih lives with her tribe, the Yawalapiti, in Xingu national park, a preserve in the Amazon basin of Brazil. The Yawalapiti collect seeds to preserve species unique to their ecosystem, which lies between the rain forest and savannah. Kawakanih’s diet is simple, consisting mainly of fish, cassava, porridge, fruit and nuts. “It takes five minutes to catch dinner”, says Kawakanih. “When you’re hungry, you just go to the river with your net”. While it is a wholesale fish market, since many Guangzhou restaurants and businesses come to purchase their seafood here, the public is welcome to come and even purchase. Many local Chinese have the vendors slice up fresh salmon fillets to take home or carry seafood into one of the nearby specialty restaurants, where they will cook if for them and serve it with vegetables and other side dishes of their choice. One of the biggest attractions for both, tourists and buyers, on market are crocodiles, which are brought there alive in wooden cases with taped jaws so they can?t accidentally bite. They are from crocodile farms from Guangdong, China and from Vietnam. Crocodile meat is popular in most Asian countries and it is consider as delicate one. Crocodiles weight from 10 to 25 kg and bigger ones are about 2 years old. They cost about 70 RMB (8.90 EURO) when bout as whole, or if you buy as parts most expensive and appreciated parts are paws 120 RMB (15.26 EURO) per kg, and tail 100 RMB (12.72 EURO) per kg. Flames quickly grow as firefighters set a backfire on the eastern front of the Park Fire, which has grown to 360,141 acres and is 12 percent contained, on July 28, 2024 near Chico, California. Strong winds and dried vegetation fueled the fire that exploded 70,000 acres in the first 24 hours after a man allegedly pushed a burning car into a ravine to intentionally set the blaze. In 2018, more than 18,000 structures were destroyed and 85 people killed in the nearby town of Paradise when the Camp Fire entrapped thousand of people and became the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history. “The Mahamasthakabhisheka (or Mahamasthak Abhishek) is an important Jain festival held once every twelve years in the town of Shravanabelagola in Karnataka state, India. The festival is held in veneration of an immense 18 meter high statue of the Bhagwan (or Saint) Gomateshwara Bahubali. “Newton was born in Berlin, the son of Klara “Claire” (Marquis) and Max Neustädter, a button factory owner. His family was Jewish. Newton attended the Heinrich-von-Treitschke-Realgymnasium and the American School in Berlin. Interested in photography from the age of 12 when he purchased his first camera, he worked for the German photographer Yva (Elsie Neulander Simon) from 1936. The increasingly oppressive restrictions placed on Jews by the Nuremberg laws meant that his father lost control of the factory in which he manufactured buttons and buckles; he was briefly interned in a concentration camp on “Kristallnacht”, November 9, 1938, which finally compelled the family to leave Germany. Newton's parents fled to South America. He was issued with a passport just after turning 18, and left Germany on December 5, 1938. At Trieste he boarded the “Conte Rosso” (along with about 200 others escaping the Nazis) intending to journey to China. After arriving in Singapore he found he was able to remain there, first and briefly as a photographer for the Straits Times and then as a portrait photographer”. – Wikipedia

The origin of the festival lies in the 15th century when a princess named Roro Anteng started the principality of Tengger with her husband Joko Seger, and the childless couple asked the mountain Gods for help in bearing children. The legend says the Gods granted them 24 children but on the provision that the 25th must be tossed into the volcano in sacrifice. The 25th child, Kesuma, was finally sacrificed in this way after initial refusal, and the tradition of throwing sacrifices into the caldera to appease the mountain Gods continues today.
