Thanks to plenty of salt minerals and heavy elements in the soil, the Dallol volcano in Ethiopia produces brilliantly colored pools of water at the top of its caldera. And, as if to add greater effect to the already stunning sights, the volcano stands apart from the salt plains around it like an island. This hotspot was created through phreatomagmatic eruptions caused by magma interacting with water, and was further altered due to the presence of salt water. Two daredevil photographers have risked their lives to become the first people to capture the explosive moment fiery lava crashes into the sea – while in the water themselves. Fearless duo Nick Selway, 28, and pal CJ Kale, 35, brave baking hot 110F (43,3C) waters to snap the amazing images – standing just feet away from scalding heat and floating lava bombs. Swisher, 37, has drawn hundreds of birds in her lifetime and puts her love of ornithology down to the nature walks she went on as a youngster.
