These ink-redible, explosive masterpieces are like say-what-you see inkblots tests only in water. The vibrant colors burst from Brian Tomlinsons works, appearing as though they may be coloured ash clouds from an erupting volcano, rather than simply everyday substances. By doing so, Brian challenges viewers to identify what images can be imagined when mixing one fluid with another. In order to shoot the series, entitled Liquid Ink Art, Brain, 40, drops different coloured inks into a fish tank full of water before capturing high-speed shots with a flash. The incredible photographs show the three alligators crowding around the man’s head as they look directly at the camera and one even appears to sit on his lap whilst another reptile places a claw on his arm as it swims towards the surface. This breathtaking view from the world's tallest building shows a thick blanket of smoggy fog smother Dubai. The mist almost completely covers the huge sculptures which dominate the skyline. And the spectacular view from the Burj Khalifa – standing at a staggering 828 metres tall – shows the city engulfed by the thick fog. The brutalist war memorials found throughout the former Yugoslavia were weird enough when they were built in the 1960s and 70s. Today, separated by the end of an architectural movement and the disintegration of the country, they seem almost alien. Belgian photographer Jan Kempenaers treats them purely as artistic objects in his book, “Spomenik”, named for the Serb-Croat word for monument. Known for photographing geographical oddities, Kempenaers was captivated by the spomenik after seeing them in an art encyclopedia.
