Farrier Garry Harland hot-shoes Albert, a pure-bred Irish draft horse at a livery in Galphay, near Ripon, North Yorkshire. UK on February 19, 2025. There are around 2,000 qualified farriers in the UK, and only a handful are able to make their own shoes from scratch in a forge like Garry does. The rest use factory-made shoes, whereas Garry's are bespoke for each horse. Hot shoe-ing is where the horseshoe is burned into the foot for longevity and stability instead of being pinned in with small nails. The horses don't feel it as there are no nerves in their feet. Its large round aviaries accelerate recovery of injured raptors by allowing them to gain strength through prolonged circular flight patterns.
