Motorists drive past an electronic board at a gas station in Paranaque city, Metro Manila, the Philippines February 4, 2016. A litre of diesel is priced at 19.2 pesos ($0.40) a litre. A dramatic drop in oil prices, driven down by a glut in supply, is translating into a mixed bag for motorists. All countries have access to the same oil prices on international markets, but retail prices vary wildly, largely because of taxes and subsidies. (Photo by Erik De Castro/Reuters)

epaselect epa05195620 Filipino elderly woman Angelika Dela Vega waves coco-net at a slum area in Las Pinas city, south of Manila, Philippines, 05 March 2016. Rope making using coconut fibers created a source of livelihood to a number of vilagares who weave the coco coir into nets. Nets made of coco coir are used to rip rap landslide prone communities as soil erosion control. According to a study by the European Union (EU) supported – “Focused-Food Production Assistance to the Vulnerable Sector (FPAVAS)” project – earnings or profits of villagers in the Philippines decreases due to unpredictable weather patterns called Climate Change. The research showed that typhoons arrived earlier than usual, becoming more frequent and of greater intensity damaging crops, while in some parts of the country, drought are abundant, had very little rainfall, thus lakes, rivers, and irrigation canals dried up.
